Description:Department Summary
P&A is an exciting and entrepreneurial revenue-generating department within DDC. P&A generates approximately 15% of DDC overall revenue through membership (dues), sponsorship and special events. Engagement and retention of the nearly 1,000 business members and acquisition of new members is critical. These businesses contribute to our cityís vibrant economy and the positive image and identity of Washington, DC as a world-class destination for locals, visitors and convention attendees to enjoy.

Position Summary
The Membership Sales Associate is responsible for securing new members and the account management of existing members. One of three departmental membership sales professionals, this position is key to executing DDCís revenue earning strategy.

A successful Membership Sales Associate will offer a combination of:
 Sales savvy to recruit and retain members
 Keen attention to detail, tracking benefits and ability to navigate a sophisticated database
 Collaborative spirit to work effectively within the organization and ensure that benefits are delivered to members
 Creative ideas for engaging members online and at events
 Genuine interest in and knowledge about DDC and member businesses

Duties:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Membership Recruitment
A. Prospect, cultivate, and establish new member relationships.
B. Attend and engage members and prospects at travel, tourism, and hospitality industry functions.
C. Answer incoming prospect calls, meet with prospective members to explain benefits, and respond to requests for information.
D. Complete daily/weekly log tracking new members, leads, and events.
E. Cold-call prospects from leads discovered through industry publications and internal and external referrals.
F. Aid in planning, implementing and attend all Membership events and activities created to engage and add value for members.

2. Membership Retention
A. Follow-up with new members ensuring that their orientation to DDC is clear, member benefits are delivered, that they have opportunities to engage across DDC departments and see demonstrated value in membership.
B. Offer excellent customer service for members and prospects, responding promptly to requests.
C. Review and recommend changes to membership fees, services and benefits.
D. Collaborate within P&A team to suggest partnership opportunities and respond to partnership needs.

3. Partnerships and Alliances Team
A. Review membership trends, provide analysis and recommendations for growth and program changes.
B. Data: Update member records and track communications in database (SimpleView).
C. Publications: Edit and proof member listings for Washington, DC official publications including visitor guides, meeting planning guide, and map.
D. Attend weekly company-wide and departmental meetings.
E. General department duties as needed.

4. Meet goals and performance plan as established by the P&A Senior Manager, Membership and Vice-President.
Qualifications:Experience, Competencies & Education
 Eagerness to contribute to and learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals.
 Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy and enthusiasm for Washington, DC.
 Great sense of humor, positive attitude.
 Exceptional customer service and business etiquette
 Consistent, positive follow-up
 Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
 Strong written and oral communication skills
 Willingness to work evenings and weekends
 Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and customer relationship management (CRM) systems required. DDC uses the Simpleview database.
 Interest in relevant business and trade publications to stay abreast of issues and source new prospects.
 Minimum two-three (2-3) years progressive sales experience preferably in the travel, tourism or hospitality industries.
 Bachelorís Degree (B.S./B.A.) from four-year college or university.

Accountabilities & Measures
Periodic performance evaluations gauging quantitative and qualitative performance against identified goals.
